I adore watching birds of prey. Especially the smaller falcons, their agility is amazing to see. The hovering kestrel is something you might see by the roadside, and the only larger bird to be able to hover properly.
Recently I’ve had the chance to watch 2 different displays in different parts of the UK. I saw this kestrel, with her 3 siblings, at the National Bird of Prey centre at the Botanic Gardens in South Wales. They focus on British birds, and have a strong conservation and education philosophy.
Trained birds of prey used in a display are more predictable and therefore can be an easier option for photography.
