Pruning the Portal

Filed under: The Portal Between — admin @ 5:10 pm

The plan for the Portal Sundered is for it to be in two parts. The bulk of the book is the main story and then there is an epilogue that is separate and in a different voice and style.

The epilogue is giving me some trouble! It started out life as a Nano winner and stood at a very long and overly wordy 50,000 words. So I’m pruning it. I’m taking the core of it and paring it severely. I’ve just got the first 20,000 words down to 2,000 but it’s hard! I’m not fond of the delete button.

I am keeping the wordy original intact - apart from a few continuity changes - and I might consider releasing it in it’s full form at some point in the future.

In the meantime it’s a week until The Portal Between could be on Amazon. Friday 21st is the first day of the 6-8 week window that Lulu gives for Amazon.com listing. It’s Equinox too, the time when Sam and Lily went over to sort things out…..
